Fiberglass is made by binding glass fibers with a resin that can be poured or applied into a mold and then hardens to form a solid composite. Polyester resin fits this role well because it is castable (has a low enough viscosity to wet out the fibers) and cures at room temperature with a catalyst to create a durable, rigid matrix. This combination makes it the common choice for fiberglass fabrication.

Nylon is a different type of polymer used mainly for fibers or molded parts, not the resin that binds glass fibers in fiberglass. Phosphorescent pigments and photochromic materials are additives that provide glow or color-change effects, not the binding agent needed to hold the glass fibers together.
